Valen The Most Powerful Front-Engined Car in Aston Martin's History

Aston Martin has officially unveiled the Valen, at the Monterey Car Week event, making it the most powerful front-engined car the British automaker has produced across its 113-year history — and also, in absolute terms, the most powerful front-engined production car in the world. The car was developed by the Q by Aston Martin division in partnership with the brand's new Special Vehicle Operations division. Its name comes from the Latin word valens, meaning "strong" or "powerful."

Valen's Engine: 5.2L Twin-Turbo V12 with 838 HP

At the heart of the Valen is a reworked version of Aston Martin's 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, with specs that speak for themselves:

  • Power: 838 horsepower.
  • Torque: 1,000 Nm.
  • An 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, with shift programming inspired by the Vantage GT4 race car.
  • Full rear-wheel drive (RWD), paired with an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential (e-LSD).

Valen vs. Vanquish: Same Foundation, Fundamental Changes

The Valen shares its basic underpinnings and platform with the Vanquish, but Aston Martin made extensive changes to the chassis and suspension system to improve stability and cornering performance:

  • A solidly mounted rear subframe, with model-specific springs.
  • A complete recalibration of the electronic stability systems, steering, and brakes.
  • Pirelli P Zero R tires developed specifically for the car (275/35 ZR21 front, 325/30 ZR21 rear), featuring Pirelli's Cyber Tyre technology, which shares real-time tire data with the car's systems.

Valen's Acceleration and Top Speed

Thanks to the upgrades to the engine and transmission, the Valen accelerates from a standstill to 97 km/h (60 mph) in just 3.0 seconds, and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 344 km/h.

Weight Reduction: 110 kg Lighter Than the Vanquish

One of the key focuses in developing the Valen was weight reduction. The car is up to 110 kilograms lighter than the standard V12 platform (Vanquish), thanks to:

  • A body made entirely of carbon fiber, saving 25 kg of structural weight.
  • A lightweight titanium exhaust system, saving 14.8 kg.
  • Standard magnesium wheels, reducing unsprung weight by 6 kg.
